Kapiti Judo Club coaching team
The Kapiti Judo Club is very fortunate to have an extremely talented and experienced group of coaches.
Lloyd Tarrant – 2nd Dan Black Belt Lloyd, who is Paraparaumu born and bred, commenced judo 1982 in Wellington, and is a former New Zealand champion in senior mens divisions. He moved back to the coast with his family in 1990 and has been active in the club ever since. He gained his 1st Dan Black Belt on 16/2/89 and his 2nd Dan Black Belt 25/5/01.
Norm Cook, 5th Dan (Godan) Black Belt As well as being a 5th Dan (Godan) black belt and having held national titles in Kata, Norm is very active in judo administration and refereeing. His positions have included: Area Director, Wellington Judo Association Inc, (9 years); Vice President – New Zealand Judo Federation Inc; Manager for NZ representative teams (8 years) including world championships; representative for Judo on NZ Olympic & Commonwealth Games Association, international referee.
Karen Parker – 1st Dan (Shodan) Black Belt Karen commenced judo in 1970 when her father, Des, set up the Kapiti Judo Club [Read more here]. Karen also did judo for three years while living in Sydney and found it a great sport to make friends. When returning to Paraparaumu she continued judo with her father until 1993 when he moved away. Karen then took up the reins and has managed the club ever since. She enjoys the sport for fitness and self defence.
Mark Gosnell – 1st Kyu Brown Belt Mark commenced judo in 1989 at the club, then had a break for a few years before coming back to the sport with his children (Mark's son Andrew is one of the club's top juniors). Mark gained his Brown Belt in December 2008. He enjoys the family sport atmosphere, the physical training and friendships that are made.
