News archive 2011 National Secondary Schools A small team of 3 competitors attended the National Secondary Schools championships in Tauranga with Peter Dacombe winning a bronze medal in the under 66kg division.
Kapiti Judo Club Chocolate Fish Day
The mat was full with 46 judoka fighting and testing their skills against other judoka on Sunday. Three fighting areas going at once kept the action going for all the parents, friends and grandparents on the side. Many surprised the coaches, referees and club mates with the throws, holds and senkeiwaza they did. Fun was had by all! click here for photos.
Secondary School Championship 18th July - Tauranga A keen 7 member team went up from the Kapiti Judo Club. Four representing Kapiti College and three representing Paraparaumu College. Competition was fierce in both girls and boys divisions. Liam Jones won silver in the under 45Kg and Matthew Whitton achieved bronze in the under 73Kg. All members competed well!
WELLINGTON AREA INVITATION OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS Sunday 16 th May was an all action day with contestants from as far north as Auckland, south as Christchurch, west as New Plymouth and east as Gisborne. Kapiti entrants all sweated hard, fighting the opposition with judoka trying their new techniques out.
First time competition entrants did very well competing against higher grades.Our thirteen entrants came home proudly with 8 medals.
Everyone was pleased with their result.
New home for club confirmed! 16/12/2006: A new home for the Kapiti Judo Club has been confirmed for the start of 2007! A new era is about to dawn for judo on the Kapiti Coast. More news soon...

A reward for 36 years of dedication to judo...
Karen is presented with her black belt by Alan Hoverd, 5th Dan Black Belt (Sensei). 5/10/2006: Kapiti Judo Club stalwart Karen Parker was awarded her 1st Dan (Shodan) Black Belt in front of her club mates on Tuesday night, 36 years after beginning the sport.
Karen began judo at the Kapiti Judo Club at the age of seven, when her father Des Sharp and a couple of others started the club back in 1970. [More info...]
Kata demonstrations show another side to judo 3/10/2006: On Tuesday night many Kapiti Judo Club members were introduced to the power and grace of "kata", by two of the country's foremost authorities in this form of judo, Alan Hoverd and Lisa Whiteman. [More info...]
