Wellington Judo Invitation Open Championships 17TH  May 2009

Kapiti were represented well at the Wellington Judo Invitation Open Championships with the judo at a very high competition level.

Competitors from Wanganui, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Auckland and one from Fiji attended giving Wellington judoka a real workout on the mat.

Dana-Jayne Mills certainly did not mess about getting out on the mat winning all her fights in her weight division to gain the Gold medal.

Repeating her performance in the Junior Girls Open division to the excitement of her parents gaining the Gold. Two fights she managed to shock her opponents by winning in 4 seconds each time.

Matthew Whitton came off the mat very red faced from his hard fights but achieving his two medals were well worth the sweating gaining Silver in the Senior Boys over 55kg and Bronze in the Senior Boys Open division.

Having to fight the best of three being only two competitors in his weight division Lance Saiger had to make sure he won the first two fights to get the Gold. That he did with his coaches encouragement from the side in the Intermediate under 60kg division.

Junior Men were very energetic on the mat with Andrew Gosnell being able to show his spark gaining the Silver medal in the under 73kg division.

So with the overall high level of competitiveness the Kapiti Club entrants achieved well.
